Sugar Free Farm: Episode 3
Sugar Free Farm reaches its grand finale!
Wow, what a response to our third episode of Sugar Free Farm – the grand finale! Alongside all your fantastic messages, I’m excited to welcome so many new faces to the site and Health Tribe (you can join us here and catch up on the events of our first two episodes here and here!). I feel absolutely blessed to have been a part of this, so thank you all!
What happened in Episode 3:
I really hope you watched, or will be watching, as this episode was my favourite of all! We picked up from day 10 of our sugar-free experiment; a point where you’re truly feeling and seeing the benefits. You only need look at our residents’ skin to see the difference, and Rory McGrath’s enthusiastic return from his morning run attests the change in energy levels.
There were more than a few viewing highlights. Poor Jennifer Ellison’s reaction to cleaning the manure pit made the Evening Standard, but it was Arg who faced one of the biggest mental challenges – leaving the security of Sugar Free Farm for the temptation-filled Malaga.
Digital Spy picked up on the moment Arg revealed his Sugar Free slip-up. We’ve all been there and one of the biggest takeaways from this experience is recognising how you felt during and after the indulgence. Whether it was truly worth it, and it rarely is! Next time you face the same, remember, there’s no need for punishments – learn from the feelings, pick yourself up and carry on!

There was a table of temptation for all later in the episode, when I presented our stars with a sugar buffet, which just so happened to feature some of their old favourites. Just a glimpse of what’s on offer in the outside world. I’ll let you watch to see how they reacted!
Temptations and real world questions were the real focus of this episode, as we watched the group attempt a sugar-free pub meal. I was impressed at how they tackled the challenge, and empathised with Jennifer’s frustrations at the wider availability of sugar-free foods: “It should be changed. They should be forced to make more sugar-free options. To be honest with you now, the more I’m looking at it now I’m in the real world I’m becoming a bit angry.”
It was also this real-world question that kept cropping up for our viewers. And I promise you, it’s far easier than you think once you get going. Furthermore, the more we’re all requesting these meals and foods, the more the restaurants and manufacturers have to listen to us. There’s power in numbers, people!
You’ll see Jennifer mentioned her goal of maintaining the 80/20 lifestyle, which is my personal rule of thumb. This means sticking to sugar-free eating 80% of the time and introducing some natural sugars in the remaining 20%. So, the dates you saw featured in the show’s pickle and dessert (we’ll come back to this one in a moment!) would fall into the 20%.
I absolutely loved the end of show party and seeing my recipes created with such flair as the guys and girls prepared a sugar-free feast for the wonderful Laverstoke Farm team. And yes, the recipe for the Lemon & Date bars is coming. Thank you for your requests!
For me, the highlight of the show is the reward of seeing the wider lifestyle changes. Watching how our celebrities’ lives and diets have changed since leaving the farm, and hearing so many of you talking about how you’re doing or planning the same. This is what it’s all about! And I can’t wait to help you. Check out ‘Want to join in at home’ below for more.
