Combat your cravings!

Combat your cravings!

We’ve all been there, those days when you just want to dive into a big bowl of cookies, cakes and chocolate and not come up for air! Let’s take control of your cravings with these five simple tips…

Stay hydrated

So hungry you’re seeing muffins? But you might not be hungry at all! Our bodies commonly mistake thirst as hunger (the dominant of the two). Aim for 35ml of unsweetened fluids per each kilo of body weight daily. It may take up to 15 minutes for your cravings to calm.

Stop skipping meals!

Skipped meals take you to the front of the Blood Sugar Roller-coaster line, which only ends at Cravings Mountain! Keep things as consistent as can be with regular meals and well timed snacks.

Protein with every meal or snack

Stay away from the biscuit tin and reach for the nuts. You’ll stay fuller for longer if good quality proteins (including lean meats, fish, beans, pulses and nuts and seeds) make a star appearance throughout your day.

science-back-cinnamon-benefits

An essential in the sugar monster’s pantry, cinnamon is your craving’s kryptonite – regulating blood sugar levels while sweetening your food. Sprinkle on porridge and smoothies and brew as a tea.

Chocolate cravings surge in the magnesium-deprived. Time to chalk some dark leafy greens, whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans and/or organic fish onto your shopping list.

And let me know how you get on! Remember, while cravings can result from our dining habits, they may also signal underlying issues – nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalance and stress being but a few. Get in touch if you’d like to delve deeper and arrange a personal consultation.

Consult your doctor or health care practitioner for any health problems, and before embarking on any new health regimes, using any supplements or before making any changes in prescribed medications or food programmes.

Part of my work in clinic is to identity and address the root cause which is responsible for the symptoms a client is experiencing. The most common underlying condition I see is unbalanced hormones. Once I noticed that balancing hormones leads to the reduction of so many other symptoms, I knew I had to create a simple plan to help people understand and support their hormones.

Follow the plan

  1. Hi Angelique,

I have a nut allergy (developed it about 3 years ago), I was tested and the doctor has told me to avoid directly eating tree nuts. It affects my throat and I carry an epicentre. I hate it!
Finding it quite difficult as to what to replace nuts with. As far as milk in my smoothies go I’m using rice milk or coconut milk. Any ideas what I can replace them with as far as nut butter or snacking is concerned?

Love sugar free farm, and enjoying your pages too.

    Regards,

    Gill.

    • Hi Gill,

Thank you for getting in touch! Oh no, I am sorry to hear you have developed the nut allergy and please ensure you have your epipen with you at all times.

So you didn’t have any allergies to nuts 3 years ago? My therapist mind is immediately jumping to what was going on for you 3/4 years ago.

Can you eat all seeds? You can try pumpkin seed butter or sunflower seed butter. I love tahini (sesame seed paste) on an apple with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Mixed seeds also make a great snack.

I make sunflower seed milk as well. I would recommend you try that above the rice milk as rice milk can be really refined.
Coconut milk is great, this is my favourite one https://angeliquepanagos.com/product/grace-premium-coconut-milk-1-ltr/

Hope this helps and please et me know how you get on with this.

  2. Hi Angelique,

Tomorrow I start me sugar free journey ‘AGAIN’ and I am hoping that ‘this is it’. I can usually last for several weeks but then I start eating it again in larger quantities than before. The first 3 or 4 days are the worst but I am determined. I would like to loose a stone too. Please can you give me the one piece of advise that I can remember when I start to falter. Also can we get the receipies that were on Sugar Free Farm in particular the lemon slice ! Thanks Janina

    • Hello Janina,

How are you getting on with your sugar-free lifestyle journey?

      My piece of advice is:
Consistency over perfection! I say we should always strive for consistency over perfection, aiming to eat healthily 80% of the time and indulge only in the remaining 20%. My recommendation is to apply this 80/20 rule as a way of life to avoid feelings of guilt and the punishing diets that follow.

Have a look at my recipes page on the website for my current recipes and sign up to my newsletter to find out about new recipes and any book news https://angeliquepanagos.com/newsletter/.

Here is the lemon bar recipe:
      https://angeliquepanagos.com/sugar-free-lemon-bars

Remember, although refined-sugar free, this recipe contains dates which are dried fruits and can raise your blood sugar levels. All dried fruits are high in fructose so should be eaten in moderation. You guessed it, this recipe should feature in the 20% of 80/20!

Hope you enjoy, do let me know what you think please and share a photo if you can.

Let me know how you are getting on!

  3. Hi Angelique,

My Mom has recently been diagnosed with diabetes and obviously now has to avoid sugary foods.

We often meet of a weekend and I would like to be able to make some of your recipes for her to try, especially your deserts. Where would I be able to get the recipes made on the series from?

    Kind regards

    Nicky

  4. Help !!!
I’ve loved watching Sugar Free Farm but I am so confused. I drink Diet Coke and can’t understand why diet drinks have more sugar than we realise in.
For years and years I have drunk diet or sugar free drinks, thinking they are okay, especially that I’ve been on a diet all my life too.
    Can you explain please.
    Many thanks

    • Hello Bonnie,

Glad you enjoyed the show and great question!

While diet coke doesn’t have sugar it is sweetened with artificial sweetener, which can be anything from 200- 600 times sweeter than sugar. This primes your sweet taste sensors to need sweet foods to meet that degree of sweetness. In addition these sweeteners are neurotoxic and associated with Alzheimer’s and dementia and if they really works would we need to keep being on a diet?

My recommendation to you is to wean yourself off of any diet drink.

      Hope this helps!
