Botanical name – Zanthoxylum Peel


Country of Origin – China


Szechuan peppercorns are completely unlike normal pepper, and are actually a tiny dried seed-pod with the seed removed. They are best crushed immediately before use and added to stir-fries, particularly meat dishes where a strong “kick” is required. Its peppery bite is warming yet refreshing and lends itself well to sauces and salad dressings for an unusual alternative to black or white pepper.


Also known as “Szechuan pepper”, these are used in traditional chinese dishes where they provide a fiery heat and a lot of flavour.
