6 motivational reasons to go sugar-free
Struggling to resist the sugar monster? Wondering why everyone’s going on about the sweet stuff? There are so many great reasons to reduce your sugar intake and today we’ll cover just six of them.
Remember, whenever we talk about going ‘sugar-free’, we’re talking about added and refined sugars (anything white, sweet and fluffy) rather than the intrinsic sugar found within your whole fruits and vegetables.
Here are 6 reasons to go sugar-free, from the health and happiness to the mirror rewards…
Feeling Lean
From muddling our hunger (ghrelin) and full (leptin) signals, to sending our fat storage into overdrive, when it comes to our waistlines, fat isn’t the enemy, sugar is! Feeling comfortable and confident in your clothes lasts a whole lot longer than a cupcake!
Far from powering you through the day, quick release sugars roller-coaster you down to a dreaded crash. Sugar-free living is the fastest farewell to the 3pm slump and the warmest hello to leaping like a spring bunny.
Heart disease, Type 2 diabetes; cancer. Our most common killers all thrive on insulin resistance. I think we’d all far rather grow old with grace and great health!
Did we mention growing old with grace? Sugar also stimulates the breakdown of collagen and elastin, the very fibres that keep our faces plump, juicy and youthful.
Hopeful parents better give sugar the boot. A high intake minimise the release of progesterone, necessary for thickening the uterus lining, AKA that safe space for the fertilised egg to nestle in! Combine this with high blood sugar’s lowering effect on a man’s sperm count and we’ve got double trouble.
Another early bonus, and a great way to close, the sugar-free life is also a calmer life – benefiting our stress hormones and all round mental wellness.
