Product Description
Steenbergs Organic Fairtrade Cinnamon Powder comes from Sri Lanka, where Steenbergs buys its organic Fairtrade spices from the Small Organic Farmers Association, a ground-breaking mutual of spice growers in Sri Lanka; we love them there and try to support them as much as possible. Delicious organic cinnamon from Sri Lanka which carries the Fairtrade Mark. Steenbergs Organic Fairtrade cinnamon powder comes from the true cinnamon tree – Cinnamomum zeylanicum – the powder is made from the bark of the tree. These are ground down to give a tan coloured powder with an aroma that is sweet, perfumed, warm and mildly woody with no hint of bitterness (unlike cassia which has a certain level of bitterness). It reminds me of the smells of Southern India and Sri Lanka, an almost mildly sandalwood flavour. I use it on anything from porridge in the morning to curries and bread and butter pudding and through to flavouring stews and curries – organic cinnamon has to be on the most versatile of spices. It’s a little known fact but Steenbergs were the first people to do Fairtrade spices in the UK with Steenbergs range of organic Fairtrade black pepper through to organic Fairtrade vanilla pods, and Steenbergs continues to have the widest range of Fairtrade spices and seasonings of any spice company in the UK and probably the world. Steenbergs Organic Fairtrade spices are not available in the supermarkets and won’t be from us – ever. Steenbergs organic Fairtrade Cinnamon Powder is part of the UK’s first range of spices to carry the Fairtrade Mark.
