Almond milk
Natural almond milk is a wonderful dairy-free milk alternative that is full of natural goodness; it’s packed full of protein, fibre and beneficial omega-6 essential fats!
Compared to soy and rice milk, almond milk has the highest concentration of vitamins and minerals, containing Zinc, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium and Selenium to name a few. It also tastes wonderful and is quick and easy to make at home!
Serves 2
Ingredients:
1 cup whole almonds (soaked overnight)
1 pinch sea salt
2-4 cups of pure water (adjust according to your preferred consistency)
Method:
1. Drain and rinse the almonds
2. Put them in the blender and add a little water
3. Blend to make a smooth paste.
4. Place mixture in a cheese cloth/ nut bag/ stockings or strainer
5. Squeeze all the milk out into a container
6. Place the strained mixture back into blender
7. Slowly add the remaining water slowly while blending, until you have a rich almond milk.
If it’s too thick then just add more water – you’re aiming for something with the consistency of its dairy counterpart.
Variations:
1. Try swapping the almonds for cashew nuts for a creamy cashew nut milk smoothie
2. Try swapping the almonds for brazil nuts for a creamy brazil nut milk smoothie
